For die-hard professional wrestling fans of a certain age, there is perhaps no company that represented their vision of professional wrestling more than Ring of Honor.

The independent promotion, founded more than 20 years ago, became home to some of pro wrestling’s best.

Many who cut their teeth in ROH went on to achieve bigger things in WWE, Impact or even NJPW.

Which is why when ROH’s hiatus was announced, many feared the worst. Well, as it turns out, the company is now under new management – who would be very familiar to wrestling fans.

This is because AEW CEO Tony Khan is now the owner of ROH. This was Khan’s ‘big announcement’ that he was teasing for the past two weeks.

It’s worth noting he made the announcement with a subtle nod to WWE CEO Vince McMahon. The words used were quite similar to what McMahon said when he announced his purchase of WCW years ago.

How both promotions move forward from this is unclear. ROH will return with their Supercard of Honor PPV in Dallas during WrestleMania weekend.

It’s also worth noting that announcer Ian Riccaboni announced television tapings for ROH on April 10 in Philadelphia.

Either way, it’s a big deal for Khan and co.

Tony Khan buys Ring of Honor – full announcement

“Moments ago on AEW: Dynamite live on TBS, it was announced that Tony Khan has agreed to acquire the assets of Ring of Honor Wrestling Entertainment, LLC from Sinclair Broadcast Group, including the promotion’s extensive video library dating back to 2002, brand assets, intellectual property, production equipment and more,” said a press release put out by Khan.

The most notable part, however, was Khan saying he would make the tape library available for viewing soon.

“Ring of Honor’s influence on modern professional wrestling is etched permanently in the history books, and this acquisition ensures that its legacy will be kept alive and treated with the utmost respect,” sai Khan.

“This deal adds thousands of hours of content to our rapidly growing library and creates new opportunities to expand our footprint on a national and global scale, while having the potential to produce new content under the ROH banner.

“I will immediately begin exploring opportunities to make ROH’s video library available to fans, who’ll have the opportunity to witness the beginnings of the careers of some of AEW’s biggest stars.”
