Martina Trevisan and Katerina Siniakova will face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 WTA Slovenia Open on September 14.
It should come as no surprise that Martina Trevisan, after her triumphs on clay courts earlier this summer, is unable to make any indentations on other surfaces. She overcame Garbine Muguruza in three sets to win her first career championship in Rabat. She also advanced to the semifinals in Roland-Garros and the quarterfinals in Budapest. She managed a 0-2 record on grass, in comparison, and is coming off a North American swing in which she won one out of four matches. Even worse, she recently lost to mother-of-two Evgeniya Rodina, who was competing in her first match in three years (l. 7-5, 6-1).
In her doubles career, Katerina Siniakova is rising to new heights. She put herself on the verge of completing her career Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon with Barbora Krejcikova, but her singles career went awry and slid down to outside the top 80. When she defeated Magda Linette to win the W100 title in Poland, she had her best singles result of the year to kick off the month of August. In the grand scheme of things, she has exited nine of her 17 main draw matches this season in the first round, with her best WTA finish coming in the quarterfinals at Hamburg.
