Italian tennis sensation and top seed Jannik Sinner’s 2022 ATP Sofia Open campaign will start with a round of 16 match against Portugal’s Nuno Borges. Sinner displayed a decent performance at the 2022 US Open earlier this month which saw him defeat the likes of Ilya Ivashka and Brandon Nakashima among others to reach the quarter-final. However, he was beaten in the last eight by eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in the thrilling five-setter that ended 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-0), 5-7, 3-6.
Nuno Borges was in action in the first round of the Sofia Open on Tuesday against Mirza Basic. The Portuguese came from a set down to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in a match that saw him hit six aces and score three out of six break points. Borges was a part of the US Open earlier this month where he was ousted in the second round by Wu Yibing.
Jannik Sinner and Nuno Borges are scheduled to face each other in the round of 16 of the 2022 ATP Sofia Open on Thursday, September 29. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 26 and end on October 2.
The ATP Sofia Open 2022 will feature five rounds of competition apart from the qualifying matches. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final. The tournament is scheduled to start on Monday, September 26 and conclude on Sunday, October 2.

For this year’s edition, the total prize money is €534,555. The winner will receive €81,310 in cash as well as 250 ranking points.
