Against compatriot CoCo Vandeweghe, Pegula will be expectant of a convincing victory as she hopes to go deep in her home WTA 500 competition.
Fourth seed Jessica Pegula might be playing her first match since the US Open at the WTA San Diego Open 2022 but she is no stranger to big competitions. The American delivered a decent performance at the Flushing Meadows last month as she beat the likes of Petra Kvitova, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and others to reach the last eight. However, she was drawn against Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals which saw the world no. 1 claim a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win. Against compatriot CoCo Vandeweghe, Pegula will be expectant of a convincing victory as she hopes to go deep in her home WTA 500 competition.
Former US Open junior champion Vandeweghe might not be one of the favourites to win to title but she can certainly be the reason of a few upsets. The 30-year-old has a ton of experience behind her, as was on display in her first round match against Sofia Kenin. Vandeweghe’s strong service game earned her nine aces against Kenin as she recorded a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 victory to make it through to the last 16. Her experience will come in handy against Pegula as well but her form needs to be on par with the fourth seed for any chance of an upset.
Jessica Pegula and CoCo Vandeweghe are scheduled to face each other in the round of 16 of the 2022 WTA San Diego Open on Thursday, October 13. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 10, 2022 and conclude on October 16, 2022.
