Soon Woo Kwon and Alex de Minaur will take on each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Japan Open on Tuesday, October 4.
There are only a few weeks left till the 2022 season is over, and Soon Woo Kwon has yet to win consecutive elimination main-draw matches this year. In these ten months, he lost all 14 of his second-round matches, including one last week at home in Seoul. Unsurprisingly, the 24-year-old South Korean has chosen to play in Asia this time around after winning his first ATP title in Nur-Sultan (Astana) last year. In the final qualifying round of the tournament’s most recent iteration in 2019, he made his ATP Tokyo debut but fell to Pablo Andujar.
Prior to losing the doubles final to Matteo Berrettini and Novak Djokovic, Alex de Minaur participated in Team World’s successful Laver Cup campaign. He won his sole singles match against former world number one Andy Murray. The Aussie #1 has at least one memorable performance in each month of the 2022 season, and he hopes to carry that momentum into the year’s final quarter. In his two trips to Tokyo in 2019 and 2018, he had a 1-1 record in first-round contests.
Soon Woo Kwon and Alex de Minaur are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Japan Open on Tuesday, October 4. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 3 and end on October 9.
The ATP Japan Open 2022 will feature five rounds of competition apart from the qualifying matches. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final. The tournament is scheduled to start on Monday, October 3 and conclude on Sunday, October 9.
