Barbora Krejcikova and Beatriz Haddad Maia will take on each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 WTA Tallinn Open on Friday, September 30.
Barbora Krejcikova defeated Marta Kostyuk 7-5, 6-3 to go to the quarterfinals. In the first set, she was need to recover from 0-3 but in the second, she was never faced with a breakpoint. Ajla Tomljanovic and the seventh seed had a similar close straight-set match a few days earlier. She was flying into Tallinn as the defending singles champion despite being the doubles champion at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. She had a five-match losing run against top 100 players and has lost two consecutive matches in 10 of her last 12 competitions.
After defeating the 2021 Roland-Garros junior champion in the second round, Beatriz Haddad Maia is prepared to take on the senior Roland-Garros champion. She ended the amazing comeback by Linda Noskova, 17, and converted eight of her nine breakpoints to win 6-1, 7-5. For the third week in a row, the Brazilian has advanced into a quarterfinal after suffering dismal last-eight losses to Ana Bogdan in Portoroz and Veronika Kudermetova in Tokyo. In this extraordinary season, she has participated in seven WTA quarterfinals and advanced to at least a semi-final in five of them.
