Yoshihito Nishioka and Miomir Kecmanovic will take on each other in the round of 16 of the 2022 ATP Japan Open on Wednesday, October 5.
Yoshihito Nishioka won his first ATP title of the year and second in Asia in Seoul last week as he marked the return of the Asian swing. He had a strong tennis season, beating top-seeded Casper Ruud and former world No. 10 Denis Shapovalov, among others. The Japanese No. 1 will now try to capitalise on his current form and momentum and have an impact at his home event in Tokyo, where he has made four appearances between 2015 and 2019 but only won one main-draw match.
Early in the 2022 season, Miomir Kecmanovic shown outstanding consistency, but his play has fallen far short of that standard recently. For reference, consider that he won 27 games and recorded six quarterfinal finishes in the first five months but only managed to win seven games in the next five months. The Serbian’s recent performance in games was also concerning. He struggled against tour-level debutant Learner Tien in the US Open first round and was easily defeated in straight sets by Aleksandar Kovacevic, an ATP Tour main-draw rookie, in the opening round in Seoul last week.
Yoshihito Nishioka and Miomir Kecmanovic are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Japan Open on Wednesday, October 5. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 3 and end on October 9.
The ATP Japan Open 2022 will feature five rounds of competition apart from the qualifying matches. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final. The tournament is scheduled to start on Monday, October 3 and conclude on Sunday, October 9.
