In the opening round of the 2022 Stockholm Open on Monday, World No. 39 Aslan Karatsev of Russia will compete against World No. 233 Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic.
In Florence last week, Karatsev defeated Tallon Griekspoor in the opening round to snap a five-match losing run. The Russian lost to Mikael Ymer in the very next round in a closely fought three-setter, but he was unable to maintain his winning streak. After the highs of 2021, Karatsev had a dismal 2022 and comes to Stockholm with a 16–27 season record. This season, the Russian has lost his opening encounter 18 times. Although he is now out of touch, will the world number 39 end the season strong?
The 37-year-old Lukas Rosol has qualified for his second tour-level main draw after dominating many games in lesser level competitions this year. This year, the Czech Republic qualified for Wimbledon. But he lost in the first round on his first visit to the All England Club since 2017. Rosol defeated Cristian Rodrguez and Nicholas David Ionel in straight sets in the first and second qualifying rounds, respectively, and advanced to the main draw in Stockholm with a 50-31 record overall in 2022.
Aslan Karatsev and Lukas Rosol are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 ATP Stockholm Open on Monday, October 17. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 17 and end on October 23.
The ATP Stockholm Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 17, 2022 and conclude on October 23, 2022.
