Varvara Gracheva and Anna Blinkova are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 WTA Korea Open on September 21.
Varvara Gracheva, the fifth seed, is coming off a mixed performance at the Chennai Open. When she won her first round match in India this week, the Russian snapped a 10-match losing streak. She followed up her first-round victory with another, indicating her return to form. But, just as things were looking up, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Linda Fruhvirtova. However, it was Gracheva’s best performance on the tour thus far. Her only other notable performances this year have been a third-round finish at the French Open and a run to the WTA 125 final in Paris. In Seoul, the 22-year-old World No. 80 will compete for the first time.
Anna Blinkova, who was knocked out in the first round of the Chennai Open, will look to make amends at the Korean Open. This year, the 24-year-old has a record of 32-24 in all competitions. She reached the WTA 125 final in Saint Malo and three ITF finals this year, but she did not win a title. While the Russian, who is ranked 149th in the world, has done well in ITF matches, she has struggled on tour. On the tour, she has struggled for a long time, and as a result, she dropped out of the top 100 last year and has remained close to No. 150 for over a year.
