Federer is undoubtedly the greatest tennis player of the 2000s decade with 20 Grand Slams to his name, including five consecutive Wimbledon and US Open victories each.
The time to bid adieu to one of the greatest sportspersons the world has ever seen is around the corner as the great Roger Federer prepares to grace the court one final time with his close friend and greatest rival, Rafael Nadal. Earlier at a press conference, Federer had said that it would be a dream for him to team up with the Spaniard in a doubles match that would prove to be his final round. That dream is about to come true and the tennis world will give the Swiss a hero’s farewell at the end of it all. Federer is undoubtedly the greatest tennis player of the 2000s decade with 20 Grand Slams to his name, including five consecutive Wimbledon and US Open victories each. He also holds the record for being world no. 1 for the longest period of time at a stretch with 237 straight weeks at the top of the game. No matter where fans’ allegiances lie, everyone knows that there is truly no one the sport has seen like Roger Federer.
Federer and Nadal will take on the American pair of Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock. Tiafoe has had recent history with Nadal as he knocked the Spaniard out of the US Open earlier this month in the round of 16 after winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Sock’s US Open campaign was rather forgettable as he was eliminated in the very first round by Argentinian tennis player Diego Schwartzman. Sock will be in singles action earlier in the day against Casper Ruud.
The Federer/Nadal pair will take on the team of Sock and Tiafoe on Friday, September 23 in the first doubles match of the 2022 Laver Cup. The tentative timing of the match is 8:20 pm BST or 12:50 am IST. The tournament is scheduled to be held from September 23 to September 25.
