For the first time since April 2022, Taro Daniel attempted to win back-to-back matches in the main draw of a tour-level event at the ATP Seoul, but was unsuccessful after losing to fellow countryman and eventual champion Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round, 2-6 4-6. In this rather successful 2022 season, the 29-year-old has won 40 matches, 25 of which have been on outdoor hard courts. Early on in the year, he displayed strong tennis, which helped him achieve several successful outcomes, like advancing to the third round of the Australian Open and the quarterfinals in Belgrade, as well as victories over players like Andy Murray, David Goffin, and Holger Rune.

Although Bernabe Zapata Miralles has won nine of his past 12 games, he has dropped both of his games on the main tour during this run, losing to Tommy Paul in five sets at the US Open first round and to Lorenzo Sonego in Sofia last week. In 2022, the Spaniard has won more main-draw games than he has in his other seasons combined (8 vs 6). Reaching the round of 16 (as a qualifier) at the French Open and the quarterfinal in Umag two months ago were some of his best performances of the season.
