Gregoire Barrere and Mikael Ymer are scheduled to face each other in the round of 16 of the 2022 ATP Moselle Open September 22.
Mikael Ymer defeated Adrian Mannarino, the ATP Winston Salem champion from last month, by a score of 7-5, 6-0, to advance to the second round of the ATP Metz. When he first entered the competition 12 months ago, he defeated Jan Lennard Struff. He then faced eventual runner-up Pablo Carreno Busta in the second round. His first three ATP Metz matches have all ended in straight sets, with the opening set of each match ending precisely at 7-5. The gifted Swede had just once in his previous three appearances on indoor hard courts this year been able to go past the first round, and he did well to turn it into a semifinal appearance in Montpellier (FRA), defeating three French players in a row.
In a fiercely contested first-round match in Metz, Gregoire Barrere took advantage of Oscar Otte’s recent fitness issues to snag the victory. He fell behind 2-5 and 3-5 in the first and second sets, respectively, but managed to win 7-6 and 7-5 in each. The 28-year-old Frenchman has only ever competed in two quarterfinals on the main tour, and both of those runs came in French indoor competitions in Montpellier 2020 and Metz 2019 respectively.
