A relatively recent addition to the ATP tour is the Astana Open. To make up for competitions that had to be cancelled owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, it was first held in 2020. The first contest’s winner was John Millman. The following year, the tournament was once again scheduled on the tennis calendar. In addition, the WTA tour visited the tournament in 2021. Last year, champions Kwon Soon-woo and Alison Van Uytvanck were crowned. The tournament has been moved up to the ATP 500 series this year from the previous two years’ ATP 250 level.

The top seed in the draw is current US Open champion and world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz. The top seeds in the competition are followed by the Spaniard and include top 10 competitors Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Novak Djokovic, Andrey Rublev, and Jannik Sinner. Andy Murray, Marin Cilic, and Stan Wawrinka, all former Grand Slam winners, are also competing. Hubert Hurkacz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Karen Khachanov, all top 20 players, are a few additional hot prospects to watch.
